Where It All Began

By DJFotoPerfect

From my early Nikon days — where every Sunday drive became a lesson in light, love, and quiet discovery.

It wasn’t a perfect shot — but it was mine.

A close-up of a branch with weathered, dark seed pods and green leaves, softly illuminated against a blurred background.

I remember the quiet hum of that early Nikon in my hands, how I stood still trying to understand light and focus and feeling, all at once. The branch in front of me wasn’t special; it was just there — weathered, holding on, still carrying the memory of what had bloomed.

Looking back now, I see what I didn’t then.

It wasn’t about getting it right — it was about learning to see. The gentle light behind the leaves, the softened tones, the tiny shadows holding their own stories. That’s where it all began.

Photography taught me patience long before I understood it.

And this photo — this quiet, unassuming moment — became a small promise to myself:

to always keep looking, even when beauty hides in the shadows.

Before I learned to chase light, I learned to pause for it.

    1. Thank you so much Mike — I think that’s what I love most about photography… how it teaches us to pause, to notice, to feel without rushing. It’s where my quiet began. Thank you for stopping by and your comment.
      Very much appreciated ✨

  1. Few pastimes bring that sense of peace and quiet that one experiences while taking photographs. One is certainly “in the moment” when the camera is to one’s eye. It is a time I enjoy very much – as you obviously do also.

    1. Thank you, Paddy — I couldn’t agree more. There’s a rare kind of peace that comes when the world slows through the lens — when focus turns into stillness, and stillness becomes presence. It’s in those quiet moments that photography feels almost like meditation. ✨
